How to Check Your Gift Card Balance

Checking your gift card balance with ValiGift takes less than a minute. No account creation, no phone calls, no navigating through multiple websites. Follow these three steps to find out how much is left on your card.

  1. Enter your card details. On the ValiGift checker page, type in the 16-digit card number found on the front of your card. Then enter the expiration month and year (MM/YY format) and the three or four-digit CVV security code printed on the back.
  2. Submit for verification. Click the Continue button. Our system will automatically detect which issuer issued your card and connect to their verification network. This process typically takes between five and thirty seconds depending on the card type.
  3. View your available balance. Once the verification completes, your current available balance will appear on screen along with the card type and currency. You can write this down or take a screenshot for your records.

What Information Do You Need

To check a gift card balance, you will need three pieces of information printed on the card itself. The card number is the 16-digit number on the front. The expiration date is shown as month and year. The CVV is the security code on the back of most cards, or on the front for some American Express cards. Without all three, the balance check cannot proceed.

Understanding Your Balance Result

When the check completes, you will see one of several possible outcomes. A successful check displays the available balance in US dollars along with the last four digits of the card for confirmation. If the balance shows zero, the card has been fully spent or was never loaded. An invalid card message means the number, expiration, or CVV does not match the issuer's records. Expired cards will also fail verification.

Common Issues and Solutions

If your balance check fails, double-check that you entered all digits correctly. Transposing a single number in the card sequence will cause the check to fail. Make sure the card has not expired, as expired cards are rejected by all issuers. If the card is brand new and has not been activated, you will need to activate it before the balance can be checked. Activation instructions are typically printed on the card carrier or packaging.

Which Cards Work with ValiGift

ValiGift supports over 20 gift card brands including Vanilla, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Walmart, Simon, and many more. Our system automatically detects the card issuer from the card number, so you do not need to select a brand manually. Simply enter the card details and our checker will handle the rest.

Is It Safe to Enter My Card Details

ValiGift processes your card details through an encrypted connection. We do not store your card number, CVV, or expiration date after the balance check is complete. The information is sent directly to the card issuer for verification and is immediately discarded. For a full overview of our data practices, review our privacy policy.
